SBI-PO 17 Mains Exam Analysis: Strategy for IBPS-PO 17

SBI PO Mains exam was held on 4th May 2017. A lot of students appeared for this exam and this brings them closer to their dream of getting a job in one of the most reputed bank- State Bank of India.
Overall the exam put up a tough fight in front of all the candidates who qualified Prelims and appeared for the Mains. Only, General Awareness section was quite a relief for the candidates as it was relatively easy.

The SBI PO Mains exam was divided into 2 categories:
(A) Online Objective Test
(B) Online Descriptive Test
Online Objective Test was divide into 4 sections. We will discuss the detailed exam analysis of all the sections one by one:

(I) Reasoning and Computer Aptitude

Maximum questions-45
Maximum marks- 60
Time allotted- 60 minutes
Reasoning section appeared to be Difficult.

  • There were NO questions on Computer Aptitude.
  • There were NO questions on Syllogism.
  • New type Machine Input-Output was introduced.
  • There was a new pattern question based on Shelf and Photo Frames. It was very calculative.


(II) English Language

Maximum questions- 35 questions
Maximum Marks- 40 marks
Time Limit- 40 minutes
The level of English section was quite difficult.

  • Reading Comprehension was quite lengthy.
  • This time there was no vocabulary based questions in English.

  • In para jumble, first and the last sentence was given and you were to arrange the remaining sentences in between.
  • There were 2 types of Error detection: 4 questions based on the conventional pattern & 4 questions were based on the new pattern and there were multiple errors in one sentence and candidates were asked to identify all the parts with errors in them.

(III) Data Analysis and Interpretation

Maximum questions- 35
Maximum marks- 60
Time limit – 45 minutes
The level of this section was Moderate-Difficult. This section appeared to be very calculative to many candidates.

  • 1set of Missing DI was based on Profit & Loss and the another was based on Time and Work (including 1 line graph which depicted individual days of people and table depicted no. of days worked by people on Project X)
  • The pie chart was based on Boats & Streams. There were 2 pie-charts; one for upstream distance and another for downstream distance. There was a table for stream speed.

(IV) General Awareness

SBI PO Mains Exam Analysis  2017: Descriptive Paper

Maximum Marks- 50
Time allotted- 30 minutes
Word Limit- 150 words

Letter Writing (150 words)

The candidates were asked to write a letter on any 1 of the following topics
  • Write a letter to the editor expressing concern over the impact of irrelevant news through social media.
  • Write a letter to an author thanking him for authoring a book on ‘fighting depressions’.
  • Write a letter to your branch manager regarding Non-Credit of the amount deposited in ATM.
  • Write a letter to your sibling giving advice related to stress and anxiety.

Essay Writing (150 words)

The candidates were asked to write an essay on any 1 of the following topics:
  • Why Technology being a power is a menace?
  • Write an essay on the effect of social media and its consequences on our population.
  • Travelling is better than watching movies and documentaries.
