P, Q, R, S, T, U, V and W are eight friends sitting in a row facing north, not necessarily in the same order. Each of them works in different cities among Pune, Gurgaon, Chennai, Noida, Hyderabad, Calcutta, Kanpur and Bangalore, again not necessarily in the same order. The following information is known about their arrangement in the row.
T sits third to the right of the one working in Calcutta and none of them sits at the end. The persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad have two persons sitting in between them and none of them sits with the one working in Calcutta. P sits to the immediate left of the one working in Pune. The number of persons sitting between W and V is same as the number of persons sitting between the ones working in Calcutta and Pune which is not zero. P doesn’t sit two places away from T. U who is working in Gurgaon, sits to the immediate right of R. Q and S don’t simultaneously sit at the ends. The one working in Bangalore sits to the right of W but does not sit with the one working in Hyderabad. The one working in Kanpur doesn’t sit at the left end. Neither R nor S is working in Noida.
ANSWER:
T sits third to the right of the one working in Calcutta and none of them sits at the end. So, there can be three cases:
Case 1: The one working in Calcutta and T sit at (2,5) respectively. The persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad have two persons sitting in between them and none of them sits with the one working in Calcutta. The persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad can sit at (4,7) or (5,8) in any order. P sits to the immediate left of the one working in Pune. The number of persons sitting between W and V is same as the number of persons sitting between the ones working in Calcutta and Pune but not zero. The persons working in Calcutta and Pune are not sitting together. If the persons working in Chennai, Hyderabad sit at (5,8) in any order, P and the one working in Pune can sit at (3,4) or (6,7) respectively. U who is working in Gurgaon, sits to the immediate right of R. If P and the one working in Pune sit at (3,4) respectively, R, U sit at (6,7) respectively. It implies that V, W sit at (2,4) in any order. Thus, S and Q sit at the ends but they simultaneously don’t sit at the ends. Thus, P and the one working in Pune sit at (6,7) respectively. It implies that V and W can only sit at (2,7) in any order as R and U won’t be able to sit anywhere if V, W sit at (2,7) in any order. Now, R and U will be at (3,4) respectively but then Q and S will have to be at the ends which is not possible. So, the persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad must be at (5,8) in any order. As P doesn’t sit two places away from T, P and the one working in Pune must be at (4,5) respectively. Thus, W, V sit at (3,6) in any order. R, U sit at (7,8) respectively. S, Q sit at (1,2) in any order. The one working in Bangalore sits to the right of W but not with the one working in Hyderabad. It means that W, V have to be at (3,6) respectively. The one working in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad must be at (6,7,4) respectively. The one working in Kanpur doesn’t sit at the left end. W works in Kanpur and the person at 1 works in Noida. Neither R nor S is working in Noida. Q, S sit at (1,2) respectively.
Case 2: The one working in Calcutta and T sit at (3,6) respectively. The persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad have two persons sitting in between them and none of them sits with the one working in Calcutta. The persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad sit at (5,8) in any order. The number of persons sitting between W and V is same as the number of persons sitting between the ones working in Calcutta and Pune but not zero. The persons working in Calcutta and Pune are not sitting together. W, V can sit at (1,4) or (4,7) in any order. P sits to the immediate left of the one working in Pune. If W, V sit at (1,4) in any order, P and the person working in Pune must be at (5,6) respectively but now R, who sits to the immediate left of U cannot sit anywhere as U works in Gurgaon. Thus, W, V sit at (4,7) in any order. P and the person working in Pune sit at (5,6) respectively. Thus, W and V sit at (4,7) in any order. R, U must be at (1,2) respectively. The one working in Bangalore sits to the right of W but not with the one working in Hyderabad. It means that W, V have to be at (4,7) respectively and the person working in Bangalore must be at 7. As the person working in Kanpur is not at the left end, R must work in Noida but R doesn’t work in Noida. So, this case gets rejected.
Case 3: The one working in Calcutta and T sit at (4,7) respectively. The persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad have two persons sitting in between them and none of them sits with the one working in Calcutta. The persons working in Chennai and Hyderabad cannot sit anywhere.
