1. An app for International Yoga Day

Software firm Esri India has developed an app for yoga practitioners, Yogamplify, using GIS (Geographic Information System) technology.
The app helps yoga enthusiasts and practitioners locate the nearest yoga centre and take part in International Yoga Day events on June 21.
The application demonstrates the simplicity and accessibility of GIS technology. Yoga event organisers can use the app to list events and provide details. Practitioners and enthusiasts can share information with their contacts through social media to promote greater participation.
2. Composite Water Management Index soon to rank States
States will be ranked annually from this fiscal on a Composite Water Management Index with 28 key performance indicators (KPIs) covering irrigation status, drinking water and other water-related sectors.
The index, developed by NITI Aayog after directions from the Prime Minister after his meeting with 13 Chief Ministers of drought-hit States last year, will form the basis of allocation of resources to Centrally-sponsored schemes.
NITI Aayog, meanwhile, has asked States to give their inputs at the earliest, as the index will be frozen next week.
Israel may also guide the whole business of water conservation and preservation in India.
3. India's first smart port city to come up at Kandla in Gujarat
The country’s first smart industrial port city (SIPC), coming up near Gandhidham, Kandla, is expected to attract private investments in excess of Rs 10,000 crore. Kandla Port Trust (KPT) would be focussing on key sectors like furniture, salt based industries and engineering. E-auction notice for industrial plots is expected to be opened later this month. Spanning 1,425 acres, the SIPC will be developed in two parts, a 580-acre smart urban township and an 845-acre modern industrial zone.
4. India re-elected to ECOSOC

India has won its re-election to the UN’s principal organ on economic, social and environmental issues for another three-year term. India was one among the 18 nations to win election to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
India has obtained 183 votes which is the second highest after Japan in the Asia-Pacific category. Pakistan whose term is also expiring also sought for re-election but lost and got only one vote.
The current elected members of the ECOSOC who will hold a three year term beginning January 1 2018 are Belarus, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Ireland, Japan, Malawi, Mexico, Morocco, Philippines, Spain, Sudan, Togo, Turkey and Uruguay.
5. eNPS Channel (“APY@eNPS) involves complete digital enrolment process
Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has now introduced “APY@eNPS” which involves a complete digital enrolment process. This is the latest in the series of various initiatives taken by PFRDA for expansion of outreach of Atal Pension Yojana (APY), to give additional push to cover the as yet unreached population at greater ease. PFRDA has conducted meetings with Banks and Deptt of Post at Kolkata, Bengaluru & Mumbai respectively for the earliest roll out of the facility call.
